MEDIA ALERT: Legal fight to clarify FOI ‘Cabinet document’ exemption, access key Robodebt documents, resumes today

Today at 10:15am, transparency advocate Justin Warren’s long-running legal fight over access to key documents behind the harmful Robodebt scheme will be heard by the Full Federal Court.

The case has the potential to clarify the controversial ‘Cabinet document’ Freedom of Information exemption – a legal tool repeatedly used by governments to deny access to information.

The exemption was the subject of a critical recommendation in the Robodebt Royal Commission report. This recommendation was the only one among 57 ignored by the Albanese Government in its recent response.

For more information on the case, please see our joint media release with Maurice Blackburn from 18 August 2023, from when the hearing was adjourned early.

Attend the hearing in person:

  • 10:15 AM today, 29 November 2023, Court one (level 8), Federal Court of Australia (Victoria Registry)
  • Court listing
