First Nations people from Laramba and Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) have been taking on the NT Government through the courts for inhumane rental homes, and winning.
For years First Nations renters in remote communities have been forced to live in homes with leaking sewage, exposed electrical wiring, pest infestations and broken doors and windows. These homes are making the elderly, those with chronic health conditions, and young people sick. They also make for unsafe conditions during extreme weather events that the communities face with the changing climate.
Through their legal action, people from Laramba and Ltyentye Apurte are improving the legal protections for their communities and forcing the NT Government to take responsibility for the housing situation in the NT. But they're not finished yet.
The community needs your support to see their legal challenges through every level of appeal through the courts to secure and expand the legal protections which could improve the homes and wellbeing of people living in 70 remote communities across the Territory.
That's why we need your support to continue to put pressure on the NT Government through the courts. Your donation will back the Laramba and Ltyentye Apurte communities' fight for this most basic human right in the courts.
All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible in Australia.
