Head of Operations

Grata Fund is seeking a Head of Operations for a fixed-term 18 month contract at 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.

The Head of Operations will be a key member of Grata’s leadership team. They will report to the Executive Director, and be responsible for developing operational strategies, implementing policies, managing budgets and ensuring regulatory compliance. Working closely with the growing and dynamic team, the Head of Operations will also manage best practice human resources policies and processes that promote our organisational culture.

Job Responsibilities

The Head of Operations will report to the Executive Director, and is responsible for:

  • Operational Strategy Development: Developing and implementing long-term operational strategies to ensure Grata’s growth, sustainability, and alignment with its mission. This includes collaborating with the leadership team to identify and address strategic priorities, improving workflows, fostering innovation, and mitigating potential operational risks through robust systems and processes.
  • People and culture: Implementing and managing best practice, values-aligned people and culture policies, including feminist and anti-racist policies and practices; implementing and managing internal strategies and processes to ensure Grata’s internal culture remains consistent with Grata’s values as we grow; managing internal team processes e.g. annual progress reviews, monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Capacity Building: Designing and implementing programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of staff, aligning professional development opportunities with Grata’s needs. Providing mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and addressing capacity gaps to ensure that Grata is adequately resourced and supported.
  • Finance: Managing payroll and team salary packaging; overseeing payment of expense claims and invoices on Xero; working with external accountants and bookkeepers to deliver monthly / EOFY reconciliation; managing annual audit processes with external auditors; creating, monitoring and reporting on annual budgets.
  • Compliance: Managing systems, processes and policies to meet compliance obligations, including regulatory obligations (BAS, IAS, ASIC, ACNC), Reconciliation Action Plan obligations, employment policies and governance requirements, including overseeing the preparation of board papers, and smooth operation of board meetings and Annual General Meetings.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate will be proactive, a problem solver, and have strong planning and organisational skills. They will bring a can-do attitude and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will also be adaptable and able to handle diverse responsibilities throughout the day.

The following experiences, qualifications and skills will be highly regarded:

  • A strong commitment to organisational excellence and a passion for fostering talent and helping team members thrive by implementing continuous improvement initiatives for people and culture.
  • Demonstrated project management experience and/or experience delivering timely and accurate compliance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management or bookkeeping, including but not limited to annual budget planning, managing Xero accounts, and preparing financial reports.
  • Demonstrated experience or education in managing and implementing best practice people and culture policies, and successfully delivering feminist and anti-racist culture outcomes within organisations.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, with the ability to collaborate with teams to manage and evaluate impact and success.
  • Experience in a similar non-profit or progressive campaigning organisation, or a background in law, human rights, government, or climate-related fields is highly desirable.
  • A detail-oriented work style, paired with the ability to maintain a broad, strategic perspective.

Salary:

$110,000 to $120,000 p.a. Base Salary at 0.8 to 1.0 FTE based on experience. This is an 18 month fixed-term contract.

Plus 11.5% super, 6 weeks annual leave per annum (pro rata) and salary packaging options available.

This part-time role can be based in most locations in Australia, with remote work/flexible options not just available, but actively modelled by senior leadership at Grata. We are a parent-friendly workplace.
